Solo Exhibition · Martin Wong Gallery · San Francisco · February 2026Desde Aqui Florecemos
Desde Aquí Florecemos is a reflection on memory, grief, migration, and the ways love continues to live through the objects, rituals, and stories we carry with us. The exhibition honors my abuelita and the legacy she left behind, particularly through her relationship with flowers and her work as a florist. Flowers become a recurring symbol throughout the work, representing both the fragility of life and the ways memory can continue to bloom long after someone is gone.
Working primarily through ceramics, I use familiar objects, floral imagery, religious symbolism, and references to family traditions to preserve memories that can otherwise feel temporary. The work draws from my family's experiences between Mexico and San Francisco's Mission District, considering how culture, care, faith, and loss are carried across generations and places.
The title, Desde Aquí Florecemos, or From Here, We Bloom, speaks to what can grow from the places and people that shape us. This body of work does not attempt to separate grief from love. Instead, it considers remembrance as an act of care: a way of holding onto those who came before us while allowing their stories to take new forms through our own lives.
