Hummingbird and Orchid, 2025

Ceramic

This piece was created after someone wrote me a letter explaining that Martin Johnson Heade's painting of a hummingbird and orchid reminded them of me and my aura. The comparison stayed with me, and the painting became a place of peace that I could return to. I began to see myself in the small hummingbird resting beside an orchid, surrounded by the beauty and stillness of nature. Recreating that feeling in clay became a way of holding onto a moment of being seen by someone else and, in turn, seeing myself differently.
