Amor con Espinas reflects on my relationship with my mother and the complicated ways love and pain can exist together. The piece depicts the two of us surrounded by thorns, representing a life in which it often felt like it was just her and me against everything around us. Our relationship has held closeness, difficulty, protection, and hurt all at once. Amor con espinas, love with thorns, became a way of giving form to a love that is real even when it is complicated.
