Ceramic, stained glass

Open Me: What Do You Want to Escape? reflects on substance use through the pain and desire for escape that can exist beneath addiction. The work is deeply connected to the loss of my abuelita to an overdose and my attempt to understand the sadness she carried. By transforming the form of a medication container into ceramic and stained glass, I ask viewers to look beyond the substance itself and consider what someone may be trying to escape from.
