Abuelita: Para la Mujer Que Hizo Florecer Todo, 2026
Ceramic
Created in honor of my abuelita after her passing, this piece holds the memories, lessons, and words that continue to make me think of her. Images surrounding the vessel move through our history, from her immigrating to the United States with her siblings to teaching me how to dance, alongside small oval scenes that hold memories I continue to encounter in everyday life. The Woman at the Well appears in stained glass as a reflection on womanhood, motherhood, faith, and the roles women are often bound to throughout their lives. Gold covers the vessel and highlights the words she used to speak life into me, including mi princesa, mi reina, mi amor, alongside one of the lessons she left me: speak even if your voice shakes. The work became a way to preserve not only who she was, but the love and sense of worth she instilled in me.
